SEPLAT set to promote creative thinking through its Teachers Empowerment Programme in Delta and Edo

… 100 teachers, 47 Chief Inspectors of Education expected to benefit from maiden edition

 

Seplat Petroleum Development Company Plc (SEPLAT) is set to promote creative thinking, allow for higher student engagement, and offer a well-rounded education through its Teachers Empowerment Programme (STEP) in Edo and Delta States.

The Seplat Teachers Empowerment Programme (STEP) which opens with a four-day residential workshop will provide training on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) modules and its application to teaching as well as leadership and self-improvement training.

Seplat Petroleum Development Company Plc is a leading indigenous Nigerian oil and gas exploration and production company with a strategic focus on Nigeria, listed on the Main Market of the London Stock Exchange and Nigeria Stock Exchange. Seplat is pursuing a Nigeria focused growth strategy and is well-positioned to participate in future divestment programmes by the international oil companies, farm-in opportunities and future licensing rounds.

The STEAM modules training which spans a period of three months will provide training on STEAM modules and its application to teaching as well as leadership and self-improvement training.

One hundred (100) teachers and 47 Chief Inspectors of Education (CIEs) from both states are expected to benefit from this maiden edition. 389 teachers representing as many schools sat for the qualifying test online on September 16, 2020 and a total of 15 secondary schools were successful for each state.  Of the 100 Teachers to be trained, 75percent are from public schools while 25 percent are from private schools.

The teachers in Edo and Delta States will also be provided with STEAM gadgets and Apps to support their delivery of quality teaching.

Roger Brown, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Seplat Petroleum Development Company Plc said, “The teachers are the critical success factor for this STEAM model, thus Seplat has embarked on empowering them with the STEAM knowledge and skill sets to enable them deliver. This programme (STEP) will be run in our host states of Delta and Edo where we plan to train 100 teachers for the pilot and same number  annually.”

The Ministry of Education Delta State and the Ministry of Science and Technology Edo State are delighted to collaborate with Seplat on this exciting initiative because of the multiplier effect it would have on secondary education and have indicated their unwavering support for the programme.
